POND
POND (Power of Nature-Based Design) is a floating lighting installation that uses energy from microbes (MFCs) to measure water quality and communicate water health through colorful light symphonies. The test installation was set up in Blijdorp Zoo to evaluate and optimize the product in an outside environment. In 2024, The installation was showcased to the public during Dutch Design Week in the lake of Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.
During my employment with Nova Innova/Living Light, I worked as a Design Engineer in developing this product. My role included developing the software for the lights to translate sensor readings into a meaningful lighting experience to communicate water quality, optimizing the design assembly to make it ready for manufacturing, and developing/testing prototypes for outdoor installations.
